Life in Australia

i've been in Aus for around 3 weeks now.. it's the second week of uni too...

the weather here is gettin warmer as it's approaching spring.. however, it's still very cold at night..it's the hardest during the time when u go to bed and when u get off the bed... when u go to bed, the bed is so cold u shiver underneath the blanket... can't leave the heater on because it'll overheat... and when it's time to get off the bed, the surrounding weather is so cold u'll not want to get off.. it's nice and warm under the blanket at this time... but what to do, i'll have to get off from bed eventually...that's the most torturing....

Besides the size of uni here and the number of students, there's not much difference between Sarawak Campus and Australia Campus...
the lecturers here are closer to the students... they like to communicate with the students which i prefer more than the ones back home.. still not used sometimes though.. i'm used to calling the lecturers ms or sir.. but over here, u call by their first names (which i haven't tried... when i approached the lecturers, i go straight to my questions... know it's kinda rude but i'll learn to call them as time goes by).

well, everything here in Swinburne is computerized and self service.... when u borrow books, u do the transaction urself with the machine provided... and printing, there's a machine where u buy the card urself and reload anytime urself... so that's one of the major difference between sarawak and australia campus..

currently.. i'm still living in Scott's house.. found a place near swinburne but only can move in on the 1st September... so, school day, i'll have to wake up a few hours earlier than the time i start uni... luckily my earliest class for the week is 9.30a.m.. so i only have to wake up at 6... prepare myself.. then start departing from house at 7.30 to the train station which takes around 15 minutes walk to catch the 7.56 train... then will take a few different trains (at least 2) to uni, reaching at around 9.05.. that's how it's like here... unlike back home, uni starts at 8.30.. wake up at 8 take a shower and then straight to uni.. i'll have to spend $5.30 every uni day for the train ticket...haihh...

i'm trying to look for a part time job here... hopefully i can get one...

since i'm currently living in Melton, most of my social activities are in Melton... i've got more friends here than in Swinburne... starting to make friends in Swinburne though... it's a little bit hard to make friends (as in friends not acquaintance) because of the size of the uni and its population.. u'll always see different faces... unlike Swin Sarawak, u see the same face everyday because everyone's in the same building...

that's currently the everyday routine here... here i'll need to two books... one for Design of Concrete Structure and one for Fluid Mechanics.. both cost around $100 each.. damn expensive... i'll definitely buy the book for Design of Concrete since it'll be for long term usage... but fluid mechanics...haihh... thinking of how to spend the very least to get this book... the library is smart... we've got all sorts of Fluid Mechanics books (one whole row) but this particular one is not there... they purposely want us to buy it cuz it's sold in the Uni itself..

by the way, to friends taking Civil Engineering... do u have to buy any Fluid Mechanics book?? how much does it cost??

AUSTRALIA and SWIMMING

it's almost two weeks living in Australia.... and currently there's this Olympic event happening in Beijing...
Well of course such huge event will have telecasts all over the world...

here in Australia, Channel 7 is the main channel...

in the swimming event, we have Stephanie Rice from Aussie who won the individual medley event and also broke the record... WOW!!! that is really a thing to be proud of.. no doubts about it..

Stephanie Rice (her birthdate is 17 June 1988... three days older than me only...Geminis are good) the Golden Girl of Australia

But... Australia is so proud of this that the winning is being replayed every day in the TV... morning, night... haih...

And everytime i on the TV, the event on show will be swimming regardless of men's or women's event... Makes me wonder if Olympics is only about swimming....

and when it comes to news... the main topic will be about sports instead of happenings all around the world... also when u read the newspaper here, the headlines will be about swimmers....

there's Stephanie Rice, Libby Trickett, Leisel Jones, Jessicah Schipper, Grant Hackett, Eamon Sullivan..... See...even i can memorise their names already....that's how much they talk about their athletes

they also talk about Michale Phelps though....although he's not Australian... He's a swimming alien. Gold is his lowest target...

haih... Australians are patriotic i should say??

btw... is Malaysia in Olympics, really i don't know...
